When I tell people that Kalon is an all-inclusive surf resort in Costa Rica, I can see what they picture: a wristband, a buffet, and a pool bar. That’s not what we do. Our costa rica all inclusive surfing experience was built from the ground up to be the opposite of that — personal, unhurried, and designed around what actually makes people happy during a week away.

As one of our guests, Timothy, put it: “I’ve heard the perfect vacation doesn’t exist. Kalon not only challenges that thought but buries it.” That kind of feedback isn’t something you earn with a swim-up bar. It comes from caring about every detail of someone’s week.

If you’ve always wanted to visit one of the most popular surf spots in Costa Rica and you love surf culture and the wildness of nature, here’s what you can actually expect from a week with us.

Kalon’s Concept of All-Inclusive

At most resorts, “all-inclusive” means they’ve pre-paid the logistics so you don’t have to think. That’s convenient. But it’s also where the effort usually ends. At Kalon, we took that starting point and asked a different question: what would an all-inclusive week look like if every single part of it was designed to make you genuinely happy?

How Does Kalon Make All-Inclusive Personal?

When Silene and I built Kalon, we had both spent enough time in hotels and resorts to know what was missing. The places that looked great on paper often felt hollow once you were there — contained, impersonal, overly managed. We wanted something different: a space where everything is taken care of, but nothing feels scripted.

With just ten rooms, we never host more than about twenty guests in a week. That changes everything. Our coaching team knows your name by Saturday evening. By Sunday morning’s first pool session, they know whether you’ve surfed before, what makes you nervous, and what kind of encouragement works for you. That’s not something a two-hundred-room resort can offer.

The value of Kalon doesn’t come down to one thing. It’s the personalized surf coaching at a 3:1 ratio. It’s the friendships guests make with like-minded solo travelers and surf beginners around our long dinner table. It’s our chefs preparing astonishing farm-to-table meals and Costa Rican coffee. It’s the trail that leads right into primary rainforest, the infinity pool overlooking the Pacific, and the freedom to shape your days however you want. About 60% of our guests have never surfed before, and another 20% have only tried once or twice — so you’ll never feel out of place.

Why Choose Dominical for Your All-Inclusive Costa Rica Holiday?

I didn’t choose Dominical by accident. When I arrived in Costa Rica in November 2010, I spent time exploring the coast before landing here. Dominical sits at the edge of the Osa Peninsula — one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet — and the moment I saw this stretch of coast, I knew this was where Kalon had to be.

Our resort sits at 1,200 feet of elevation on a 6.4-acre private estate. Toucans, sloths, and monkeys are regular visitors — not a marketing line, but an actual part of your morning. The jungle meets the Pacific here in a way that still stops me after fifteen years. And the surf? Consistent, uncrowded, and powerful enough to challenge you without overwhelming beginners.

Our role is to adapt to what brings you joy, quietly shaping your week to your preferences. This ensures there is zero friction, zero logistics, so you can unwind and engage with the surfing and nature around you. Booking your vacation shouldn’t add complexity to your life. At Kalon, everything is taken care of — from the airport pickup at SJO to the last sunset — so you can focus on what matters.

What Does All-Inclusive at Kalon Include?

At too many places, “all-inclusive” means something slightly different once you arrive. Extra charges for activities, reserved dining slots, scrambles for pool chairs. That’s not how we operate.

From the moment our driver collects you at San José International Airport to your return drive the following Saturday, everything is handled. Seven nights at the resort. Five days of personalized surf coaching with video analysis. A therapeutic massage. All gourmet meals, snacks, and drinks — including beer and wine. Yoga sessions, a coffee tasting, a cooking class. All surf equipment. You don’t run a tab. You don’t think about it.

Surf coaching is tailored to your level, with many guests joining us as first-time surfers and others with advanced skills they want to refine. We work in groups of up to three guests per coach, providing in-water guidance and daily video analysis to help you see exactly where to improve — building your ability to progress long-term, not just counting waves and ticking boxes.

Our accommodations range from luxury ocean view rooms with panoramic Pacific views to our junior suite with an outdoor jacuzzi. Every room has a private balcony, ensuite bathroom, luxury linens, and the kind of quiet that makes you realize how much noise you’ve been living with.

How to Book Your Stay at Kalon

We’d love to welcome you to experience it for yourself. You’re always welcome to contact us to inquire about availability or learn more about our space and rooms.

As Kaeleigh says: “All in all, an unforgettable experience. We’d recommend Kalon Surf to anyone looking for adventure, great food, and incredible people.”
