Surf & Yoga Retreat in Costa Rica
Daily surf coaching, open-air yoga, and a private rainforest estate — all-inclusive, all taken care of.
A Retreat Built Around the Ocean
Movement in the water, stillness on the deck — and nothing to organize in between.
A week at Kalon is a surf and yoga retreat in the most literal sense: you surf every surf day with a dedicated coach, you stretch and breathe on an open-air deck above the jungle, and everything else — gourmet meals, transfers, a massage, your schedule — is already handled. About 60% of our guests have never surfed before, and many have never stepped on a yoga mat. Both are exactly the point.
The rhythm follows the ocean. Surf sessions move with the tides, so no two days look the same — mornings might start with coffee and yoga, or with a drive to an uncrowded beach while the light is still golden. What stays constant is the feeling: you're moving your body, eating well, sleeping deeply, and coming home with a skill instead of just a tan.
The Rhythm of the Retreat
Surf, yoga, and recovery reinforce each other — that's why the week works.
Surf With a Coach
Daily surf lessons in groups of three or fewer, timed to the tides. Beach drills, pool technique, video analysis, and hours in warm water — whether it's your first wave or your five-hundredth.
Open-Air Yoga
Yoga on the jungle-surrounded deck, three times a week, taught at a beginner-friendly level so everyone can join. The focus is stretching, breathing, and recovery — exactly what your shoulders, hips, and back ask for after a morning of paddling.
Restore & Refuel
A one-hour massage is included with every stay, with more spa treatments available on-site. Meals come from our own kitchen — gourmet, generous, and cooked around what a body in the ocean actually needs.
A Retreat Inside the Rainforest
Kalon sits on a 6.4-acre private estate above Costa Rica's South Pacific coast, near Dominical — and most of the property is rainforest. A trail leads from the resort grounds directly into primary rainforest: toucans in the morning, monkeys at the pool, sloths in the trees, no tour bus required.
Between surf and yoga sessions there's plenty of space to wander — walk the private trails to the gardens where food for the kitchen is grown, or simply sit with a coffee and let the jungle do the entertaining. If you want more, we'll arrange waterfall hikes, zip-lining, or horseback riding — the team handles all the logistics.

Common Questions
Is this a surf retreat or a yoga retreat?
It's a surf retreat with yoga woven through the week. Surfing leads: daily coached sessions timed to the tides, in groups of three or fewer. Yoga supports: open-air classes three times a week focused on stretching, breathing, and recovery — exactly what your body asks for after mornings in the water. If you want a retreat where you come home with a real skill and a rested body, that's the balance we built.
How much yoga is included?
Yoga is offered three times per week on the open-air deck, surrounded by jungle. Classes are taught at a beginner-friendly level so everyone can join — most of our guests are surfers first and yogis second, and the sessions reflect that. A one-hour massage is also included with every stay, with more spa treatments available on-site.
Do I need surf or yoga experience?
No. About 60% of guests arrive never having surfed, and plenty have never stepped on a yoga mat. The surf coaching is built around beginners while still challenging experienced surfers, and the yoga meets you exactly where you are — no flexibility prerequisites, no performance pressure.
What's included in the surf and yoga retreat?
Everything: airport transfers from San José, seven nights of ocean-view accommodation, five days of surf coaching, all meals and snacks from our kitchen, beer and wine, yoga sessions, a one-hour massage, pool technique sessions, video analysis, surfboards and equipment, and all on-property amenities. The only extras are optional tours, additional massages, and liquor. See the full experience for details.
Is there really a rainforest trail on the property?
Yes. Kalon sits on a 6.4-acre private estate that is mostly rainforest, and a trail leads from the resort grounds directly into primary rainforest. Toucans, monkeys, and sloths are regular sightings — no tour bus required. Guided options like waterfall hikes and zip-lining can be arranged nearby.
When is the best time of year for a surf and yoga retreat in Costa Rica?
Any month works — the South Pacific coast has surfable waves year-round, and your coach picks the beach and tide window that fits the group each day. The dry season (December–April) brings sunnier skies; the green season brings bigger southwest swells and lush jungle. Our guide to the best time to surf in Costa Rica breaks it down month by month.
How much does a surf and yoga retreat in Costa Rica cost?
Kalon's all-inclusive weeks are priced as one rate covering surf coaching, yoga, meals, massage, transfers, and accommodation — see current rates. For honest context on what a Costa Rica surf trip costs at every budget level, read our cost breakdown.
