Luxury Surf Resort Costa Rica
Where Jungle Meets
the Pacific
An intimate luxury resort perched above the rainforest canopy, with the ocean stretching to the horizon
Your Home Above the Canopy
At 1,200 feet, with the Pacific stretching to the horizon, Kalon Surf is an open-air resort designed to blur the line between indoors and out. Ocean breezes drift through every room, the pool overlooks miles of coastline, and the jungle is your backyard.
With just 10 luxury accommodations — six ocean-view rooms, two junior suites with private jacuzzis, a jungle bungalow, and a villa with its own plunge pool — the atmosphere is intimate, calm, and unhurried. This isn't a typical hotel. It's a private estate designed to feel like your home for the week — relaxed, effortless, and quietly luxurious.
Your Stay at Our Private Costa Rica Surf Resort
Kalon Surf is a Costa Rica surf resort built around a simple idea: take care of everything, so our guests can focus on what they actually came for. With ten rooms and a maximum of twenty guests per week, it's a luxury surf resort that offers privacy and comfort in a way that larger places can't. About 60% of our guests arrive having never surfed before. The rest are intermediate and advanced surfers drawn to the consistent surfing conditions. Both feel at home here — and that's by design.
A lot of our guests are solo travelers, and Kalon is made for that. The long dinner table, the shared surf sessions, the pool at sunset — friendships form naturally, without anyone having to force it. Couples and small groups love it too. The luxury villa has a calm, unhurried energy that lets you be as social or as quiet as you want.
We keep guest numbers small deliberately. It means your surf coaching is genuinely personalized, the property never feels crowded, and the team knows your name by the end of the first day. Everything is taken care of — transport, meals, planning — so the only decision you make all week is whether to explore a waterfall or sit by the pool.
Yoga at the edge of the jungle, surf sessions on uncrowded waves, hikes into the Costa Rican landscape, and three-course dinners with the sun setting over the Pacific. That's what a week here looks like — and it's all included.

About the Resort
What makes a luxury surf resort in Costa Rica different from a traditional surf resort?
The biggest difference is the experience beyond the water. A traditional surf resort often means shared rooms, basic meals, and larger group lessons. At Kalon, you stay on a private estate with just 10 accommodations, enjoy chef-prepared meals, and receive personalized surf coaching with video analysis — all with wide-open Pacific beach views from 1,200 feet.
Everything is designed so you can fully switch off: seamless arrival logistics, thoughtful details throughout the resort, and a rhythm that balances surfing with real rest. It's the difference between simply going surfing and coming home feeling genuinely recharged.
Is a luxury surf retreat in Costa Rica suitable for beginner surfers?
Absolutely — many guests arrive having never surfed before. Your week begins with a relaxed introduction to the team and the flow of the week, then you’ll typically start with a pool session or a beach practice session before heading into the water. From there, we build step by step: technique, timing, confidence, and lots of time actually riding waves.
You’ll be matched with the right board for your level from our collection (from ultra-stable beginner shapes to higher-performance options), and your coach is in the water with you at a 3:1 guest-to-coach ratio. Each session includes video analysis so you can see what’s working and what to adjust — in a supportive, never-intimidating way.
Are luxury surf resorts in Costa Rica safe for solo travelers?
Very much so. A large portion of our surfer guests arrive solo (and many are women), so you won't feel like the odd one out — it's completely normal here. With a maximum of around 20 guests per week, you'll recognize everyone quickly, and the setting feels easy and relaxed.
The week naturally brings people together: surfing, yoga, and long, unhurried dinners around one beautifully set table — calm, comfortable, and never a "party scene." At the same time, you'll always have privacy when you want it, with your own room and plenty of quiet corners around the property.
We also take the surf trip logistics off your plate: you'll be met at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) and driven along the coastal highway to Dominical, and we handle everything from there.
What can I expect from an all-inclusive luxury surf resort experience in Costa Rica?
Everything is included from the moment you’re met at San José International Airport (SJO) until we drive you back the following Saturday. During your Saturday-to-Saturday stay, you’ll enjoy five full surf days with professional coaching, pool sessions for technique work, daily yoga, and video analysis of your sessions — plus access to our full board collection so you’re always on the right equipment for your level.
Off the water, you’ll have chef-prepared meals throughout the week: daily breakfast, beach lunches, and a served, relaxed dinner-party style evening at one long table — great food, easy conversation, and a calm pace. You’ll also have snacks and drinks available throughout the day. The only extras are optional tours and additional massages.
How far is Dominical from San José International Airport (SJO)?
Kalon Surf is approximately a three-hour scenic drive south of San José. Airport transfers are included in your stay — you’ll be met at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) and driven along the coastal highway to Dominical.
We recommend arriving on Saturday, and departing the following Saturday. If you have specific flight times, just let our team know and we’ll guide you on the smoothest arrival window.
What is the best time of year to visit a luxury surf resort in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica's South Pacific coast offers great conditions year-round. Dry season (roughly November through April) brings consistent swells and clear skies. The green season in Costa Rica (roughly May through November) delivers warmer south swells, lighter crowds, and lush landscapes — often with sunny days and the chance of a refreshing rain shower just before nightfall.
A local phenomenon called veranito (little summer) typically shows up in parts of June through August, often bringing stretches of near-dry-season weather in the heart of green season. Water temperatures stay warm year-round, so a wetsuit is rarely needed.
What wildlife can I see near a luxury surf resort near the Osa Peninsula?
Kalon Surf sits near Dominical at the gateway to the Osa Peninsula — one of the most biodiverse regions on earth. On and around the property, it's common to see toucans, sloths, monkeys, iguanas, and an incredible variety of tropical birds in the surrounding canopy.
If you want to go deeper, we can help arrange guided Costa Rica experiences like waterfall hikes, rainforest walks, and visits to local fincas and nature areas. Even your surf days are part of the wildlife experience — dolphins are frequent sightings from the lineup, and sea turtles nest along parts of the coast in season.

A Luxury Surf Resort Like No Other
A private estate, not a hotel. Kalon Surf sits on a 6.4-acre estate above the Pacific with just 10 accommodations — six luxury ocean-view rooms, two junior suites with private jacuzzis, a jungle bungalow, and a villa with its own plunge pool. With a maximum of 20 guests per week, the experience is intimate and unhurried. You'll share long dinners and surf sessions with a small group of like-minded travelers — couples, solo adventurers, families with older kids — and return to your own private space whenever you want. It's the kind of luxury surf resort in Costa Rica where everything feels personal, because it is.
All-inclusive from airport to airport. We pick you up from San José International Airport (SJO) in one of our private SUVs for a scenic 3-hour coastal drive to Dominical. From that moment, everything is taken care of: five days of professional surf coaching with video analysis, Firewire surfboards matched to your level, daily yoga, pool technique sessions, three gourmet meals a day, and drinks throughout the week. The only extras are optional tours and additional massages. Our coaches work at a 3:1 guest-to-coach ratio, guiding you to uncrowded breaks that most visitors to Costa Rica never find — whether you've never stood on a board or you're refining your cutback.
Year-round conditions on the South Pacific coast. Located near Dominical at the gateway to the Osa Peninsula — which National Geographic has called one of the most biologically intense places on earth — Kalon welcomes guests year-round at near-full capacity. Dry season (November–April) brings consistent northwest swells and clear skies. The green season (May–November) delivers warmer south swells, lighter crowds, and a local phenomenon called veranito that produces near-dry-season conditions through June to August. Water temperatures sit around 78°F year-round, so you'll never need a wetsuit. We also recommend guests consider travel insurance with Cancel for Any Reason coverage for peace of mind — our team can point you in the right direction when you book.
